Thought yall might find this interesting as my current knowledge of “what is that in the sky” can’t figure this one out… have been an amateur astronomer for quite some time. Not a plane, satellite, or a lens flare as that disappeared when the meteor finished disintegrating.

During the August 11-12th Perseid meteor shower peak there happened to be some quite strong auroral activity from where I’m at in Michigan. I happened to capture a lucky video where a prominent meteor flies through the aurora before burning up and disappearing. Right after it burns up and goes away, there’s two sources of light that appear and continue moving to the left.. I missed it when recording but only noticed when going back through the footage.

Recorded with military gen 3 night vision and my iPhone . IR pass filter used . Spectral range here was 685nm to around 940nm.

  1. I don’t know what I’m talking about at all, but could it not just be another meteor burning up?

  2. Submission statement: Bright meteor recorded through military night vision during a time of geomagnetic storms . The meteor burns up and thus disappears, then 2 sources of light continue on for a moment. Unable to think of what it could be other than another meteor and lens flare . Recorded on august the 12th 2024 during the peak of the perseid meteor shower, from Michigan in the United States.

  3. I think this is just multiple pieces of rock that entered at the same time or broke off , they don’t all burn and fizzle out at the same time. Nice reaction speed though!
